Health and Fitness Tips

Top Ten List for Staying Healthy!

1. EXERCISE!
Nothing beats a great workout for improving one’s health! Getting up off the couch and going for AT LEAST a brisk walk is the best health and fitness tip I have to offer! And it is even better if you can go out and get your heart into its “80 % of maximum” zone for at least 30 minutes 4 or 5 times per week. Not only is vigorous exercise great for your entire body, it is a fabulous stress reliever! The hardest part is not starting the best exercise program; it is staying with it. Try offering a reward for yourself if you start a plan and stay with it religiously for a month!

2. CUT THE FAT OUT!
No, I am not a nutrition nut, but it is in your best interest to cut the fat out of your diet enough to cut the fat out from around your middle! I like to eat, but the only way I can eat without worrying is to exercise…a lot. Being fat is not healthy. Period! The second of the best health and fitness tips is to lose weight! Set some goals and just do it. You will not only feel better, but you will be healthier and enjoy a longer life!

3. If you smoke, STOP TODAY!
For the life of me I can’t imagine why anyone would start smoking; much less not quit. It stinks, gives you wrinkles, makes you pant climbing stairs, gives you dead dog breath, might give you cancer or a heart attack, and/or it might kill you! Of all the health and fitness tips I have to offer, this one is the simplest; just don’t buy any more cigarettes! Stop today for your fitness and overall health!

4. GET RID OF THE STRESS…or at least LOWER IT!
Stress is just plain bad for your system. If you are under stress, at least follow my health and fitness tip number one; make sure you work out hard! Nothing beats a great fitness workout to get rid of stress. My Mother’s solution to stress: It won’t make any difference five years from now! I try to live by that one! Thanks Mother!

5. Keep it NATURAL!
For the best health and fitness, keep your life as natural as possible. Cut out as many artificial nutrients as possible. Again, I am not a health food nut, but I don’t like to put garbage in my mouth if I can help it. Read labels! Buy the all natural peanut butter instead of the stuff with hydrogenated oils. It can be just that simple. I like health and fitness tips to be simple! Natural peanut butter may not be your end-all answer to health, but repeating such choices time and again will have an effect! How about cooking with honey instead of sugar!

6. BUCKLE UP!
How mad would you be at yourself if you had a wreck, were thrown from your car, and paralyzed? Most serious injuries in car wrecks occur when the occupants are thrown from their cars! It simply is STUPID not to wear a seat belt. Even if you are just going to the store a few blocks away. A 35 MPH collision can kill you! Add this one to you list of tips for sure. It is simple and easy and could make the difference between just a bad day and a bad rest of your life!

7. TEETH MATTER!
Gum health is very important! The number seven health and fitness tip is to floss your teeth and visit your dentist! Be careful of the sugary foods you eat when you can’t brush. Diseased gums can lead to other bodily problems as the nasty bacteria in your mouth enter your blood stream. Nasty, huh! So keep those teeth clean!

8. Easy on the BOOZE
One glass a day is ALL anyone is saying is healthy. That is FOUR OUNCES to the glass; not a 32 oz Styrofoam cup of red wine! It can ruin your liver and give you all kinds of cancers. Not to mention that it can affect you brain waves. If you are drinking alcohol on a regular basis, stop for a few weeks. You will see the world through a totally different set of eyes! Alcohol, beyond one glass or one beer a day, does not make for great health or fitness!

9. Find the SILVER LINING
Keep a positive outlook! Tip number 9 can change your life! Make it a habit! Being negative in your mind will result in negative health and fitness outcomes. Who wants to be around a negative person? If you are negative a lot, I bet you don’t even like yourself very much. That is not the way to stay healthy at all! When things don’t go your way, be upbeat and just look for something positive. That silver lining is ALWAYS there if you look hard enough!

10. Stay INFORMED!
Don’t be an ostrich when it comes to your fitness and health. Be honest with yourself. Ask yourself tough questions about your health and fitness state. Read as much as you can about fitness. Subscribe to some fitness magazines! After I read about Lance Armstrong in the New York Marathon, I went for a great run. It was very motivating! Find the best exercise program for yourself and stick with it!
