Cure a Cold?

We can send a man to the moon, but we can’t find a cure for the common cold? Well, yes and no. The problem is that there are several hundred versions of the common cold. Creating a vaccine for one would be an easy cure for that strain of the virus. In fact it would be entirely possible to create a vaccine for all known cold viruses. We take a shot for preventing polio, measles, and even the flu. So what is the problem? Why can’t we cure a cold? Why doesn’t some researcher simply come up with a shot for us to take?

The problem is that there are many different strains of the virus, and they are constantly mutating. Some viruses, such as common cold, HIV, and flu mutate too often for a permanent vaccine to be effective. For example, the polio virus does not mutate. Being inoculated as a child protects us for life.

Is There a Cure?

So what can be done? A billion dollar industry is thriving because there is no cure for the common cold. Just walk down any drug store aisle and one will see countless so called “cold remedies”. But they do not cure the common cold. All they can do is ease the symptoms until the cold passes. Usually it takes 4 to 6 days for a cold to completely run its course.
But I have a technique which I believe does “cure” a cold. Actually my technique of fighting off a common cold beats it before it gets a good foot hold in my system. I have used this method countless times and most of time it works! No, I don’t have any scientific evidence, but I am positive it works for me.

Fever vs. Virus

First off let me tell you NOT to try this alone. If no one is with you to check on you, don’t do it! My method for curing a cold relies on giving the body an extra dose of its best defensive mechanism – fever.
Fever is good. Viruses are very specific as to the temperature they need to survive. This is why our dogs don’t catch our colds and visa versa; their body temperature is much higher than ours, so there is almost nothing we can pass back and forth between each other. It is far safer to kiss a strange dog than to kiss a strange person!

My Method

Ok, here is my trick to cure a cold. We all know the tell-tale signs of the onset of a common cold. For me it is scratchy feeling in the back of my throat. It is a different feeling than an allergy. Your symptoms of the start of a cold may be different, but I bet you know it when it is coming. When this happens I try my best to get into a bathtub of very hot water. I even turn our bathroom heater on too in order to make the room as warm as possible. I make the water as hot as I can stand and get as much of my body into it as possible. WARNING! Do not do this by yourself! I deliberately raise my body temperature to create a “fever”. Raising my body temperature at this time will kill the cold virus 9 times out of 10. It works on the same principle as when the body creates its own fever. The cold virus likes 98.6 degrees. Anything hotter and it suffers.

But this method WILL NOT WORK once the cold really has a grip. If you have full blown symptoms, the hot bath may make your feel better for a bit, but it won’t kill the cold virus once it has a good grip. At that point the only thing which will cure it is your bodies own immune system. Your white blood cells will go into overdrive and kill it off in a few days.

In summary, to cure a cold with my method I use a hot bath at the VERY EARLY stages of symptoms. This raises my body temperature and makes for an inhospitable environment. This works most of time for me. Just remember never to do this alone!
